The collection is arranged as follows: Box 1 mainly contains McConnell Clan Newsletters; Boxes 2-3 contain items roughly considered genealogical in nature. Four original paintings by Clara Lucas are stored in the office of the University Archivist.

Biographical/Historical Note
John Preston McConnell, born February 22, 1866 in Scott County, Virginia, was the founder and first president of what is now Radford University. He was an avid letter writer and urged his family members to save letters and paperwork and to keep in touch with each other. Genealogical research was a common hobby in the McConnell family, and this collection reflects much of their collective effort at understanding who they were, where they came from, and with the idea that future generations needed to know this as well.
This collection, in conjunction with the Carl Hiram McConnell Collection, the McConnell Family Correspondence Collection, the John Preston McConnell Personal Papers Collection, and the oral history video A Conversation with Adain McConnell work together to give a very detailed overview of the McConnell Family.
Scope and Contents
This collection consists mainly of items of McConnell Family newsletters, genealogical information, privately published books centered around McConnell Family history, correspondence, photographs, paintings, and various other items received from the McConnell Family.
