Biographical/Historical Note
Lucien Doyal Adams was born Nov. 17, 1910 in Radford, Virginia. He graduated with a degree in industrial engineering from Virginia Tech, and later from University of Pennsylvania with a master's degree in educational administration. He served in various capacities in the military from 1942-1970. In 1950 he joined the Richmond Public School System and served several years at a turbulent time where many controversies raged, including about desegregation, sex education and teacher pay.
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of information from two aspects of Lucien Doyle Adams' life- his military experience and his years spent as an educator in the State of Virginia. Most of the items related to his military experience were previously classified World War 2 documents that the National Archives has since de-classified, and maps used during the war. The material concerning his years as an educator includes pay stubs, contracts, and various papers.
