My name is Bud Bennett and I run McConnell Library’s Archives and Special Collections Department and am also the Appalachian Music Specialist in the library. I have played banjo since 1977 and enjoy exploring all kinds of music on the banjo. Besides bluegrass, I also play jazz, ragtime and classical music on the banjo and have recently taken up the tenor banjo as well. I am very interested in banjo history and how the banjo has evolved over the years.
This blog will be primarily used to highlight selections from McConnell Library’s Appalachian Music Collection and to discuss local events and people involved in Appalachian music. I plan on using interviews, articles, photos, sound and video clips to inform and educate people about music and cultural events in the New River Valley. It will also be the place I post links to various interviews and films I make as part of my efforts toward educating and entertaining people about the music and culture I love.
As they say, come on in…. kick your shoes off and sit a spell.
Mr. Bennett, We are huge fans of the Kruger Brothers, Bluegrass music and this website! My dad, turning 80 in September, does not always have access to the internet and would like a copy of your interview with Jens Kruger on DVD. Do you sell copies of these interviews? Thank you for your time and talent.
